Benefits of Team Driving:

What is team driving?

Team truck driving is when two drivers drive the same truck and take shifts driving the truck. According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), truck drivers can only drive a maximum of 11 hours after 10 consecutive hours off duty. As a result, one team member can drive for 11 hours while the other driver catches up on sleep.

Is it better to drive a truck as a team?

When compared to solo drivers, team truck drivers can usually make more money. Despite their pay being split between the two drivers, team truck drivers can run significantly more miles than they ever could by themselves.

Solo drivers have to shut down at least 10 hours every day so they average between 2,400 miles and 2,800 miles per week. Because team truck drivers can rotate out, driving teams log anywhere from 4,500 miles to 5,000 miles per week.

In addition to driving more miles, team drivers usually can get more priority loads. If freight needs to get somewhere fast, teams are typically considered before solo truck drivers.

Another benefit to team driving is that you don’t have to drive alone. It’s always more fun to travel with someone else and have somebody to talk to. For spouses and friends, team driving gives more opportunities to spend time together.

And finally, team truck driving is usually more efficient and secure than solo driving. One person can watch the truck while the other grabs food or a shower, so your truck and freight never have to be left unattended.

Choosing to drive as a team or drive a truck solo will depend on the person and everybody’s choice will be different. We want to hear what you think: is driving as a team better, or driving solo?
