The top three ways Applicant Tracking Systems help you hire truck drivers.

The top three ways Applicant Tracking Systems help you hire truck drivers.

Applicant Tracking Systems have really improved over the last ten years. They now feed right into your onboarding and payroll when used properly. But, to some, they seem like an unnecessary headache with little value. With the truck driver market being tighter than ever, you need every resource available to properly staff your trucking company. Here are the top three ways an ATS can help you hire the truck drivers you need.

  1. Nice looking and easy to complete application for the driver.

  1. The applicant dashboard keeps you on top of all the current applicants.

  1. The history can help you find drivers that turned you down to work for someone else.

Nice looking and easy to complete application for the driver.

You don’t need to be a big player in trucking to look like one. With a good ATS, you don’t even need your own website! The ATS will provide a nice-looking internet environment. It will give you a link to it that you can put in your job postings on Facebook or indeed.com etc… The ATS will also allow an applicant to start the application and come back later to where they left off.

The applicant dashboard keeps you on top of all the current applicants.

If you can write an ad or have other ways to draw in many applicants, you’ll need to know the status of each application. An applicant dashboard in an ATS provides that for you. You can see all of them and filter or sort applications by just about anything. You can also set reminders to make sure you stay in contact with an applicant. Helping you not lose them to another trucking company.

The history can help you find drivers that turned you down to work for someone else.

This is my favorite tool in the ATS. Let’s walk through an example. You have an applicant, let’s call him Fred. You offer Fred the job, but he says that they decided to work for another trucking company. Let’s call the company ABC Trucking. The recruiter at ABC said they’d get $2,700 a week and home time. Too bad for you but you wish them well. You can then put a reminder in the ATS to call them in a month to see how things are going with ABC Trucking. Did ABC Trucking keep its promises? If the driver says they were not truthful, you can step in before they quit and start looking for a job again. Even if ABC Trucking is keeping their promises, it shows that you care and they will remember that.

There are many other advantages to an applicant tracking system for trucking. Our favorite feeds into a Human Resource Information System to speeding up onboarding time. Be sure to pick the one that is best for your trucking company.
